The Greenhouse Effect

Types of gas emissions

“The greenhouse effect happens when certain gases, which are known as greenhouse gases, accumulate in Earth’s atmosphere. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), ozone (O3), and fluorinated gases.”

What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases allow sunlight to hit the earth yet traps the heat inside the atmosphere. Some greenhouse gases come naturally, from wild animals, evaporation, and volcanoes both above and below water. Yet recently since the late 1700s the increase of gas emissions have grown substantially. This is partly due to the industrial revolution. Greenhouse gases were increased by 70% between 1970 and 2007 alone. The rise in Earth's average temperature is due to human activities that we call global warming.

What is affected by climate change?

The sea levels will rise, ecosystems will become unbalanced, entire countries will be famished due to drought, an increase in natural disasters, etc.

How can you help?

Driving less, not for unnecessary things; Flying planes less, reusing and recycling, planting trees or donating to plant trees, and supporting alternative energy sources that do not burn fossil fuels.
